Animal Style

December 8 - January 25

Animals have always served as an inspiration in art.  Whether they are wild or domestic, the study of animals can help us better understand the world and ourselves.  “Animal Style” is an exhibition of contemporary works by Southern California artists with an affinity and respect for the diverse creatures that share our planet.  Many of the artists are graduates of the Laguna Canyon School of the Arts.  The exhibit showcases mixed media and will run through January 25, 2020.

Talented local artists Amber Foote and Michael McGregor will have their fabulous works of art on display as well as artists:

Karin Ashley
Emily Bertucci
Barbara Brown
Cody Jimenez
Monique Johnson
Christopher Slaymaker
Trevor Walker
Laura Weinberger

Amber Foote is a fine art painter in oils and acrylics.  She paints portraits, still-life objects and animal artwork, striving to recreate a sense of realism and personality. Her still-life paintings often have a play on words or a humorous feeling about them.

Chuck Jones Exhibit

The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity was pleased to present, “Character: Chuck Jones, Artist and Animator,” at the Potocki Center for the Arts. The exhibit featured hand-painted celluloid art editions, fine art giclées, hand-pulled lithographs, and mixed-media work from the fertile imagination and hand of Chuck Jones. Four-time Academy Award recipient and the legendary creator of the Looney Tunes characters Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote, Pepé le Pew, Marvin Martian, and one of the fathers of Bugs Bunny and Daffy, Jones has been honored worldwide as a creative genius.

The exhibition explored the relationship between Jones’s fine art figure studies and his animated masterpieces. On display were examples of work created during the “Golden Age” of animation and contemporaneous figure studies Jones created under the guidance of Donald Graham, longtime figure study professor and mentor at CalArts.

Guests viewed their favorite cartoon characters as they romped and cavorted through many of your favorite cartoons such as “What’s Opera, Doc?”; “Duck Dodgers and the 24 ½ Century”; “One Froggy Evening”; and “Robin Hood Daffy.” You’ll be saying “what’s up, doc?” in no time.

Real Heroes Collection

Picture
About the artist Fernando Del Rosarito and the REAL HEROES story.

This collection of original composed art is in honor of the two things that are dear to me: superheroes and inspirational quotes by extraordinary people. Growing up as a foreigner in this wonderful country, I was not a popular, athletic or charismatic kid. As an awkward boy trying to find his place in a new country, I found solace and inspiration in the stories and characters of the superheroes I would see on television or read about in the pages of a comic book. As I developed my own identity and confidence, my interest expanded to poetry, philosophies, and quotations by extraordinary people. I was drawn to movies and documentaries of struggle, adversity, and accomplishment.

Picture
At that point, I realized that superheroes do exist in the real world. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Bruce Lee, Nelson Mandela, Muhammad Ali, Walt Disney and Michael Jordan are just a few of the many individuals that have inspired me. Like many of the superheroes I grew up with, these people were not always perfect. They made mistakes. They struggled. They failed. But they got back up and tried and tried again. They were ordinary people like us, who gave it a little bit “extra” to become extraordinary. This original art collection is in honor of what has inspired me throughout the years and is an expression of my creative perspective. Every one of these comic book pages is from my collection as a kid. And this is my way of sharing my story and my inspiration with the public. It is an art collection 32 years in the making.
